It's like the food version of Brenda Walsh

I have a secret love of Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills 90210. It's totally shameful. I grew up watching The Bev (as my friends and I called it) and openly hated the way Brenda could get away with mouthing off to her parents. But I secretly loved the fact that she was such an unpleasant beeyotch. So we were having dinner the other night with a certain twosome, and one of the twosome blurted out "I love Macaroni Grill and I won't be shamed!" It appears that Macaroni Grill is his Brenda Walsh.

I know that true foodies are above such generic chain restaurant tomfoolery but I have seveal Brenda Walshes.

1. Olive Garden. Because they hate LGBTs, I need to hate them but there's so cheap and the salad is SOOOO good.

2. Buca de Beppo. This goes beyond super sized into the realm of enogh to feed an army. Regardless of what you think of the food (I love it), the servers are really friendly and prompt.

3. Sonic. Damn you Sonic and your 50 miles away from DC location. Why must you torture us so with your ads?

4. Denny's. While some prefer IHOP, I find Denny's "hash browns" to be crisper.

5. PF Chang's/Pei Wei. My in-laws are addicted to Pei Wei. In college, the only way you could keep up as a science major was to form a study group. There was this chick named Pei Wei who kept using our notes and never sharing hers. We vowed that whoever got into med school and had to cut up a cadaver would name their first cadaver Pei Wei. But Pei Wei the restaurant has really good brown rice.

So what's your culinary Brenda Walsh? Come on, we all know you have one (if not many).

I'm curious if there's a specific Sonic you're thinking about. The nearest one I can find is in Delaware, and the fact that they advertise in DC is a big mystery. Thanks!

The only one we know of is on the Virginia/Tennessee border in Bristol.

I am CONSTANTLY complaining about those Sonic ads! Why advertise here if we don't have one?

And I love the Olive Garden, even if that makes me Rob & Ellen from Will and Grace.

On a related note - Shannen Doherty will be one of the many 'guest co-hosts' of the view later this month!

TacoBell....I love it...and it makes me horribly sick...and those damn bread sticks and salad the O'Garden. And Cracker Barrel with their yummy racist cheesy potatoes--which I can now make thank you very much so I don't have to go back anymore.

For me it's Krystals (the Southern version of White Castles). Whenever we drive home, we stop at the Krystal's in Bristol, TN. It's the first one you can get to from here. A sackful of belly bombs. Worth every gassy moment.

I have to go with the simple "how dare I be a liberal and love it" Mickey D's. I wrestle with my fallen vegetarianism and my fallen boycott every time I take a damn tasty bite of a quarter pounder with cheese. It's worth a little moral compromise.

I grew up on Sonic in southern NM. I love Sonic. Whenever I drive to Smith Mountain Lake, I have to stop in Lynchburg to get my fix!

Sonic Rocks!

The Delaware Sonic is on the way to the beaches from DC and opened this season. It's next to the huge McD's on 404. I haven't had a chance to get back now that they're done with construction:

I blame Cable TV for being exposed to their commercials... LR

Arby's. I love Arby's in spite of the fact that pop culture (including The Simpsons, for god's sake) tells me it's crap. I was so sad when they discontinued what I thought of as the Indecisive Rebecca combo - two overbreaded chicken fingers and one roast beef sandwich with curly fries.

i just started reading your blog 30 seconds ago, and the very first post i saw spoke to me. WHAT is up with those Sonic ads?? They are killing me. If there were a Sonic around here, I'd eat there weekly. Bi-weekly, even. It is really a pain having to drive for a few hours to get to one.

My wife and I are were JUST talking about this the other week... how odd. We love independent restaurants, but damn, I'll eat at a Magginaos any day. Shhhh...
